It may not be safe for you to access sites for information about family violence from your computer.   Your abuser could discover what sites you have visited.

Your Internet Activities Can Be Discovered
To hide your Internet activities you need to clear the computer’s memory of the most recent pages you have accessed on the Internet. This memory is the browser’s cache. By emptying your computer’s cache, your recently visited sites will be deleted. It is a good idea to access some sites on other subjects after you have cleared the cache so that it will have some items in it. For instance, check out the sites of newspapers, government, or entertainment.

If you use Internet Explorer 9:

  • Select Tools via the blue gear icon in the top right-hand corner of your browser (Or hold Ctrl + Shift + Delete).
  • Pull down the Safety menu, select Delete Browsing History.
  • Uncheck Preserve Favourites Website Data.
  • Select Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and History.
  • Click Delete.
  • TIP: While browsing The RAVE Project in the future, first switch to InPrivate Browsing mode: Pull down the Safety menu, select InPrivate Browsing. View any website normally without capturing data.

If you use Internet Explorer 10:

  • Select Tools via the blue gear icon in the top right-hand corner of your browser (Or hold Ctrl + Shift + Delete).
  • Pull down the Safety menu, select Delete Browsing History.

  • Open the menu by clicking the three points in the top right-hand corner of your browser.
  • Go to the settings menu.
  • Select Privacy, Search, and Services.
  • Under “Clear Browsing History” click “Choose what to clear”.
  • Select the dropdown menu under the heading “Time range” and select the desired amount of time to clear.
  • Select Browsing history, Download history, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files.
  • Click “Clear Now”.
  • TIP: While browsing The RAVE Project in the future, first switch to InPrivate Browsing mode: Pull down the menu by clicking the three points in the top right corner, select New InPrivate Window. View any website normally without capturing data.

If you use Firefox:

  • In the top right-hand corner of the browser, click on the icon that has four lines (three vertical lines and one slanted line).
  • Select “History” from the dropdown menu.
  • Select “Clear Recent History”.
  • Under the heading “Time range to clear” select the desired amount of time to clear.
  • Select Browsing & Download History, Cookies, and Cache.
  • Select “OK” in the bottom left-hand corner.
  • Tip: While browsing the RAVE Project in the future, first switch to Private Browsing mode: Click on the triple bar icon in the top right-hand corner (three horizontal lines) , and select New Private Window. View any website normally without capturing data.

If you use Google Chrome:

  • In the top right-hand corner of the browser, select the icon that appears as three points.
  • Select “History” in the dropdown menu.
  • Select “Clear browsing data” on the left-hand side.
  • Under the heading “Time range” select the desired amount of time to clear.
  • Select Browning history, Cookies and other data, and Cached images and files.
  • Select “Clear data” in the bottom left-hand corner.
  • TIP: While browsing The RAVE Project in the future, first switch to Incognito Browsing mode: Pull down the menu by clicking the three points in the top right corner, select New Incognito Window. View any website normally without capturing data.

If you use Safari:

  • Pull down the History menu, select Clear History.
  • Under the heading “Clear” select the desired amount of time to clear.
  • Select “Clear History”.
  • In order to clear caches, pull down the Develop menu and select “Empty Caches”.
  • TIP: While browsing The RAVE Project in the future, first switch to Incognito Browsing mode: Pull down the File menu in the top left-hand corner and select New Private Window. View any website normally without capturing data.

If you use AOL:

  • Pull down My AOL, select Preferences.
  • Click on the WWW icon under Temporary Internet Files, click on “Delete Files”.
  • Under History, click on “Clear History”.

If you do not know which browser you are using, pull down the Help menu, and click on About. Please note, certain browsers update regularly and may change the steps required to clear your browser history.
